Olia Zavozina
The Profile

Olia
Zavozina

Russian born and internationally celebrated, Olia Zavozina designs bespoke wedding gowns, bridal couture, and red-carpet attire from her atelier in Nashville. For nearly twenty years she has made a name in one of the most competitive corners of fashion, one dress at a time.

I

She made her first wedding dress for a Barbie, a young girl in Siberia sketching gowns for a life she had not yet lived. She never really looked back. At eighteen she made a bold move and came to the United States on her own, eventually settling in Nashville.

She launched her first collection while she was still in college, studying for her MBA. She sewed what she could and sold it piece by piece, and the work grew from there. One dress became a name, and the name became a business.

II

Building it took years of unglamorous effort. She developed the wholesale side herself, taking a collection on the road to market and standing her small operation next to labels backed by far more money. The orders came. Her gowns went on to show at New York Bridal Week, and the OLIA ZAVOZINA label became one of the top-selling bridal collections at Nordstrom.

Even as the brand grew, she kept her hands in the work. She is known for the time she spends with a client before anything is cut, getting to know the woman and the day she is dressing for. She draws inspiration from nature and from the art she loves, and she gives the same attention to every gown, whether it is worn to a backyard wedding or a red carpet.

III

Every gown is designed and made by hand, fitted to one person and no one else. There is no rushing and no mass production, only personal attention and craftsmanship from start to finish. It is exactly why brides seek her out.

That reputation carried her name well beyond Nashville. Her designs have appeared on entertainers, athletes, and television personalities, and each commission started the same way, as a conversation with the person who would wear it.

Over the years, the client list has grown into a global one.

At home, she has become a fixture of the Nashville fashion scene. In 2019 she received Nashville Fashion Week’s Point of View Award.

There is a life outside the work, too. Olia and her husband, Derek McFarlin, built The View at Anderson Farm, a wedding venue on their family land just outside Nashville, where her gowns and their hospitality meet in one place.

She moves between two worlds, the glamour of high fashion and the quiet of the farm she shares with her family, and finds equal joy in both. It is a long way from a girl in Siberia sewing a dress for her Barbie, and it is exactly where she meant to end up.
